FAQs

1. What do we consider to be vintage and retro items?

There are differing opinions on what defines a vintage item. At Recreate Vintage Home, an item that is at least 40 years old is considered vintage and retro means an item that is manufactured to look like decor from a previous era even if it is brand new. We do carry some items that are not yet vintage, however, if they were manufactured by a company that is no longer in existence and the items they once sold are not being produced today, we will include these items in our store if they fit the aesthetic of what we offer.

2. What do we consider to be unique items?

At Recreate Vintage Home, we define unique items as any item that is not generally found in a Big Box store or online marketplaces that sell goods in mass quantities at cheaper prices. These would be items that are not mass produced or sold in large volume and are generally made by local crafters and artisans. An example would be new signed studio pottery pieces, handmade jewelry created by an artisan working in small-batch, new pieces of signed artwork, and the like.

3. Where do we find the merchandise that is available on our website?

My husband, Ren, and I are avid vintage hunters and we schedule time every week to visit antique malls, craft fairs, estate sales, garage sales, and even roadside vendors in search of the perfect items to offer our customers in our online store. We have traveled across the United States and Canada in search of unique finds. If you would like to follow us on our treasure hunts we would love for you to consider subscribing to our Youtube channel, Recreate Vintage Home as we begin sharing our adventures with you. We are just getting starting on Youtube, but would love for you to check us out and consider subscribing so you can follow along with us on the hunt!

4. Since the items we sell are not newly manufactured, how do we handle items that may have flaws or evidence of wear?

Due to the fact that we sell items that have been previously loved, they will sometimes have evidence of wear or patina consistent with their age. Because of this, the customer is encouraged to carefully read the description of items they wish to purchase so they are aware of any flaws or evidence of age on the item. We work very hard to choose only the highest quality items in very good condition, however, there are sometimes items that are too good to pass up, but they have a flaw or two which we are careful to divulge in the item description. At Recreate Vintage Home, we don’t mind finding awesome items that may have evidence of a life well-lived, however, we work very hard to only offer items that are both beautiful and functional, and that we know our customers will love to have in their homes. We do offer a return policy, however we encourage you to carefully read the description of the item prior to purchasing so that you are aware of any conditions in the item you wish to purchase.

5. How long has Recreate Vintage Home been in business?

We have been in business since 2019, however, we started out under the name recrEAte—premier furniture restylers (The EA is a nod to our hometown of East Aurora which is the birthplace of the Arts & Crafts Movement of the late 1800s into the early 1900s). Our first foray into rescuing vintage items was to refinish, repurpose, and paint older pieces of furniture and home decor that were destined for the trash and to give these pieces new life—hence the name Recreate. We opened a storefront in East Aurora, NY in February of 2020 where we sold, not only our restyled furniture and up cycled decor, but also provided a venue for local artisans and creators to sell their products. Just 40 days after opening we were shut down for three months due to the pandemic. We reopened in June of 2020 and operated our shop until closing it at the end of December of that year. At that time we decided that we would rather use the time we were spending managing a brick and mortar in more creative ways and began making plans to open several booths in antique malls and marketplaces in our local area. This turned out to be the right decision for us. We currently have one booth at The Old Chapel Antique & Artisan Marketplace at 172 Robinson St in North Tonawanda, NY. This allows us to continue sharing our rescued and repurposed furniture with our local customers while the online store gives us the opportunity to share our passion for incorporating vintage, retro and unique decor styles into everyday living with customers across the country.
